IS IT TOO LATE FOR YOU TO HAVE GOOD LOOKING TEETH?
Today, 29th September 2011:
I have been to the dentist to be told that my teeth are in good shape BUT they are showing troublesome signs of discolouration even though I do not smoke or drink large amount of red wine. Both of which I understand will cause teeth to permanently stain unless treated regularly with a teeth whitener.
We discussed how this whitening works and what the plusses and minuses were and I asked, a) what was the best way of going about this a) to achieve the best results and b) not to cost me a fortune?
My dentist explained that Teeth Whitening can be and is increasingly an important part of self image, self confidence and personal feel good factors for many people. So much so that there are many good and bad products on the market all of which make claims that need to be considered carefully.
He explained that for those many people would love to have brighter, whiter teeth the two main ways of achieving this are to use a home teeth whitening kit or to go to him, the dentist. There is considerable debate of which, if either, of these is the better option whether home teeth whitening can really be as good as going to the dentist.
His main points were:
Cost
The cost is one of the main differences between a home teeth whitening kit and a trip to the dentists. If you go to a dentist, you will have to pay for their time as well as whatever treatment they use on your teeth, which can involve laser treatment as well as traditional whitening methods. The cost of this can easily add up, especially as you will have to have the procedure repeated a couple of times a year. By contrast, you can purchase a home teeth whitening kit very affordably (for around the price of a good meal out, for instance).
Convenience
if you go to the dentist, you will have to make an appointment and might not be able to get one that’s convenient for you. Using a home teeth whitening kit means you don’t have to worry about any of this and can use the kit whenever it is most convenient for you in an environment where you feel comfortable.
Quality of the product
Many people are surprised to discover that the products dentists use in teeth whitening procedures are largely the same as those you will find in teeth whitening kits for home use. Dentists may use a slightly stronger version of the whitening product (the active ingredient is normally peroxide), which may damage the enamel on your teeth and cause your teeth to become more sensitive. But will produce as good results.
He concludes that:
Home teeth whitening kits are at least as good as going to the dentist. If you go to the dentist to get the procedure done, you will have the peace of mind from knowing a professional is in charge of the job but it is likely to cost much more and may be more damaging to your teeth due to the strength they may use. Always worth checking this point out with the dentist.
Using a home teeth whitening kit can be more convenient and affordable for most people and they can actually be safer to use, which is a good selling point for a lot of people.
Now is the time to explore further before deciding:
How to choose the right teeth whitening products for you
With mounting pressure to stay looking younger for longer, an increasing number of men and women are turning to cosmetic treatments.
There are numerous teeth whitening kits currently available, and choosing the right one to meet your needs can be a tricky decision. Depending on whether you have sensitive teeth, and depending on the level of whiteness you’re looking for, there are a number of options open to you.
Different people have different ideas of what makes the perfect smile. So it is important to decide on what you want to achieve.
• Freshen up your image
• Bring your teeth back to their original brilliant white.
• Feel better about yourself
• Reduce the poor image your teeth have at present
• Improve your look
•
Applying a carbamide peroxide gel for brief periods over the course of a few weeks, helps you choose the exact shade of white you want your teeth to be.
Be careful If you have sensitive teeth, you may find that extended use of the carbamide peroxide gel causes some slight discomfort
What are the main advantages?
Aside from the obvious difference in cost, a home whitening kit offers numerous other advantages. Rather than having to organise your other commitments to slot in with your dentist’s availability, you can now whiten your teeth at a time that is convenient for you. If stored correctly, these kits are long lasting and will remain potent for up to two years, giving you real freedom from any time constraints.
Whenever you choose to work your personal whitening programme into your life – be it before breakfast or after work – you can be sure that this convenient product will allow you to do so in a very non-invasive manner. By taking total control over your treatment, you can be sure of achieving the right level of whiteness for you.
My dentist has shown to be very supportive but as you would expect has left it to me to decide between, DENTIST and HOME TEETH WHITENING.
I will decide soon.
